Until recently, iphones had a monopoly on the smartphone industry.  The iphone revolutionized the industry with its touchscreen interface, internet connectivity, and seemingly endless supply of apps.  Lately, other companies are starting to put out smartphones that not only contend with, but surpass the iphone in many ways.  One such smartphone is the Google Android.  It has been out for a relatively short period of time but shows some promising potential.  It has a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard as well as a sleek and comfortable design.  Another feature it has is its advanced megapixel camera with LED flash.  It boasts a variety of features, touchscreen ability, internet connectivity, as well as a wide assortment of smartphone apps.

One other thing that Android smatphones have made available to users is their direct link to social media sites.  This would include sites like Twitter, Facebook among others.  This allows Android owners to receive immediate notifications and messages over their phones.  On top of these social media links, the Android also has thousands of smartphone apps available over the market.  Smartphone apps are becoming more and more popular, and thousands of developers are competing to get their apps out there to users.  These apps are great because you can find one to fit almost any need that you have.  Some apps will help you find locations or restaurants, while others will help you price match and save money on shopping.  The most popular apps are usually the games, but you can find an app for almost anything out there.  The Android has a database of over 20,000 different apps to choose from and is continually growing.

There are, however, some surprises that come along with the Android.  For some reason, three of the top consumer electronics companies have made no new Android hardware or software announcements.  There is sure to be a reason for it, and it most assuredly will happen soon.  This is no reason to worry though, because the software side of the company continues to grow at an incredible pace.

The Android smartphone also offers a much more competitive price than the iphone and other competitors.  Iphones can go for hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but the android is much less expensive and still offers similar features.  If you want to be a smart consumer, then the best advice you can get is to go and do a lot of research for yourself.  Decide what you are looking for in a smartphone and compare the top competitors out there and see which one fits your preferences the best.
